Kempton Selections

A midweek blog post, rare old things they are. Anyway with the Sagaro card switched to Kempton, I was worried the fields would pull apart, but they really haven’t and it’s a top day of racing.

2:00 Bet at Bluesquare.com Conditions Stakes

A decent little juvenile conditions race where Lyric Ace goes off favourite. He came on for his debut here when behind Bailey’s Jubilee, easily the best juvenile seen so far and made no mistake when winning on soft at Leicester last time. CHILWORTH ICON was behind him that day but got a very slow start and in the end had no chance. But he has won since at Bath, a race where he could be called the winner from a long way. There is a lot less between those two than the market suggests and it’s definitely worth having a speculative bet on the outsider. Baddilini was well touted before his debut and duly delivered at Windsor. His trainer isn’t as notable for juvenile winners and i’d rather be on him than the favourite anyway. Mossgo finishes the line-up but may have to come on for his debut to get involved in a better race.

Advice – Chilworth Icon 1.5pts win @10/1 Bet365

3:10 Get Your Bet On At Blue Square Paradise Stakes

Side Glance is a strong favourite and i’m a big fan of the horse. He certainly will come on for his first run at Doncaster and should be fine enough on this surface. SKILFUL comes into this season as a horse on the upgrade and would have won his final start if it was at this trip. He won his maiden at Lingfield and i’d be amazed if he didn’t handle this surface. Money for Saamidd would be very interesting. I was very sweet on him when he ran in the Guineas but something was amiss and he hasn’t been seen since. If he still has that potential then he should run very close. King Torus will find this tough off a penalty especially while Sri Putra may just need this and his best form is over slightly further. Scarf needs to improve while money for Titus Mills would be significant but again he may just need this.

3:45 Blue Square Levy Board Sagaro Stakes

I was very keen on THIMAAR for this but he’s been backed accordingly and his price of 9/4 is not value. But I still think he will win this as I was so taken by his performance in the Queens Prize here last time out when beating Gulf Of Naples. That was a group performance by the pair of them, the rest nowhere in sight and he should also come on for that run according to his trainer. Red Cadeaux was a grand servant over the winter with places in the Irish Leger, Melbourne Cup and Hong Kong Vase. He has flopped on his two starts at Kempton but if wound up probably, is a big challenger. Barbican beat the selection last year over 1m4f and he won twice after that, including an impressive listed win at this track. He should be okay after his Meydan run but has the trip to prove. If he stays then he will get involved. I’m very much looking forward to Colour Vision this year who has now joined Godolphin but i’ll be surprised if he wins this today and he will be much better when back on turf. Electrolyser led all the way in the Further Flight at the first time of asking, showing his wellbeing but he has a penalty to contend with. Solar Sky was behind him that day but the step up to this trip is what he needs, his only run at the trip being when he was runner-up in the Queens Vase at Royal Ascot.

Advice – Skilful/Thimaar 2pts win double @18.5/1 Stan James
